Giving Christianity Back to Jesus reinvisions Christianity's limiting beliefs to reflect the unconditional love of God and the Oneness Jesus invited us into.
For centuries, Christians and others have been captivated by the life of Jesus of Nazareth.  This single man has been the object of adoration and worship; guidance and hope.  For 2000 years, Jesus has been at the heart of Christianity.

And yet, Christians have not always been at the heart of Jesus.  Christians have become stuck in dogmatism, rigid in their beliefs, prejudiced towards those unlike them, discriminatory towards those of other religions, and towards those of no religion at all.

As Christianity has moved farther away from Jesus, Christians have moved farther away from the Church.  Membership in churches has dropped by almost 30% in the last generation alone, and churches are closing left and right. (1)  Recent statistics say that seven in ten Protestants ages 18 to 30 — both evangelical and mainline — who went to church regularly in high school quit attending by age 23. And 34% of those said they had not returned, even sporadically, by age 30. (2)

Giving Christianity Back to Jesus is a bold response to this critical juncture in world and religious history.  Written by a lifelong Christian, a graduate of Christian seminary, and a practicing Christian minister, it is a book that Christians and non-Christians are hungry for.   It is a book that could not come at a more decisive point in history.

To the extent that Christians and the Church have become disconnected from their primary source and teacher- Jesus; to the extent that the Christian Church has lost its relevancy in contemporary culture; to that extent have the people within the Church longed for an infusion of spiritual life.  Nothing short of a dramatic re-envisioning of the beliefs, teachings, and life of the Church could give such an infusion.

Giving Christianity Back to Jesus is just such a re-envisioning in all areas of Christian life and tradition.  Giving Christianity Back to Jesus reimagines God, Jesus, and life; ourselves and others; teachings on sexuality and sexual orientation; beliefs on what it means to be Christian in an age of pluralism; and on sin, salvation, scripture- all in a way that resonates with both mind and heart.  Written as a conversation with Jesus, the pages of Giving Christianity Back to Jesus carry a timeless message that is both affirming and challenging.  Its words hold the power to return Christians, and seekers everywhere, to the original power of Jesus’ life and message.
